How to Stay Away from Small-minded People

“Tell me who your friends are and I tell you who you are” – You must have heard of this line dozens of times.

People with strong personalities are rarely influenced by friends. But chances are, the more you hang out with a certain group of people, your mentality will slowly morphed to become like theirs, strong personality or not.

If you surround yourself with people who always think small, those afraid of taking risks, those who are always cynical in life, or those who always talk ill about others, there’s a high chance you’ll be suctioned into their negativity.

It’s not only your friends, but also it’s the people you surround yourself with. It could be your family, a relative, or someone you hang out quite often. It could even be a hater you put so much attention to.

If you are someone who desires growth, success  and a life on your own terms, you certainly don’t want to be in the company of these small minded people and you definitely don’t want to pay any attention to their limiting beliefs.

Let me share an important lesson I learned from one of Joel Osteen’s podcast episodes. He talked about kissing people goodbye. He said that if you are in the company of a person who  belittles you, pulls you down and hinders you from achieving your dreams, you just  have to kiss them goodbye.

When someone belittles you, they are being little. Small minded people won’t celebrate you. Small minded people will be jealous, criticise, find fault, gossip, trying to make you look bad.

Don’t ever fight battles with small minded people.  If you’re going to reach your destiny, you have to learn to kiss negative things goodbye. Accept it as God’s plan, kiss it goodbye, and move on.

Call to Action:

Think of someone with a small-mind mentality. If they’re family, you don’t necessarily have to shut them off but you have to learn to NOT LISTEN to their negativity.

If they’re your friends,  hang out with them less often and don’t feel guilty about it. Find new friends who will inspire and encourage you instead of pull you down.

If they’re  just a hater in the sidelines, goodness just IGNORE THEM. They aren’t worth your time. Your destiny is too great to be distracted by someone that small.
