How to Empower Yourself

Lacking confidence, no motivation, low self-esteem, feeling like a failure? 

We all have times in our lives when we feel we don’t measure up. But there’s really only one solution to these self limiting beliefs.  YOU DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT! 

When you get sick, you go to the doctor for treatment. When your car stalls, you bring it to a mechanic so he can fix what’s faulty.When you feel hungry, you eat. 

When something is wrong, we fix it. We just don’t sit around waiting for miracles. We do something about it! So why not do something about those limiting beliefs? 

“But you’ve never experienced what it feels like to fail, to be rejected, to lose or even  feel insignificant so it’s easier for you to say ”

Trust me Boo, no one is that perfect enough. Even the most influential people in the world have gone through rejections, failures and losses at one point in their lives. But you know what they did to get to where they are? They DID SOMETHING about it. They didn’t create excuses. 

“So where do  I start? How can I get rid of these negative self beliefs? “

You begin by empowering yourself.

1.GET RID OF THE VICTIM’S MINDSET

This is the first step. Understand that you can never change the past but you have it in your hands to create your future. If you keep the victim’s mindset, you will stay a victim all your life because you manifest what you believe. Your beliefs are so powerful that  they manifest your reality. That’s the law of attraction. 

So be  consciously aware of what you put in your mind.  If you focus on positive thoughts, you will attract positive things. But a negative mindset will never end in the outcome of a positive life.

2. BE SELF-SUFFICIENT

You feel empowered when you have your own ~ your own finance, your own passion, your own opinion, your own hustle and your own life. For us women, nothing is more empowering than possessing the means for infinite progression. When you have your own, no one can ever dictate how you’ll live your life.  In this day and age, we have so many access to opportunities that will elevate ourselves but it’s up to us to find them. 

3.DON’T RELY ON OTHERS FOR YOUR  HAPPINESS

Cultivate a life of self-reliance. When you are emotionally dependent on other people to make you happy, you are putting yourself at high risk ~ risk of being hurt,  disappointed and frustrated. 

Our families and friends make us happy, yes, and I’m not saying you shouldn’t build healthy relationships ~ but your primary source of happiness should be from yourself. And this brings me to no. 4 …

4.DO WHAT YOU LOVE

After interviewing over a thousand people in 1961, Psychologist Csikszentmihalyi  found that happiness or “flow” occurs when we are engaged in an activity of our own choosing that makes us lose track of time and forget ourselves completely. 

Doing what you love is a major contributor to your overall happiness. If you don’t know what it is you love, you have to find it out. 

Ask yourself these questions: What makes me happy? What gives me  profound sense of satisfaction? 

5.NEVER STOP ACQUIRING KNOWLEDGE

Most people stop learning after finishing school, but self-improvement means you never stop acquiring knowledge. I cannot emphasize enough how books feed your mind with things your future self will thank you for.  If you don’t like to read, listen to audiobooks or subscribe to podcasts. If you’re a visual person, watch documentaries or interviews.  As long as you keep learning and improving your knowledge, you will grow and you will only be better, if not the best. 

6.BELIEVE  YOU CAN

 We have a lot more in us than we think we have,  both mentally and physically.  I am a big fan of David Goggins  (author of Can’t Hurt Me and former US Navy Seal) and I try to follow his 40% rule in my life. He said that  when your mind is telling you you’re done, you’re really only 40 percent done”

 When you push yourself to the limits and when you keep going despite your mind telling you you’re done, you’ll realise that you are capable of so much more. That’s how you reach your full potential. 

7.SPEAK UP

Don’t cower when you have an opinion you want to share.  We tend to keep our feelings, opinions or ideas when someone is far superior in position than us. In my previous job, I use to keep my views to myself because I was new then, I was the youngest and less experienced amongst everyone.  But it really made me feel like s*** for curtailing myself when I know I have better ideas to share that could improve the organisation. I felt powerless and that hurt my self-esteem.  What was I scared of?  Fear of rejection?  Fear of getting into disagreement with my colleagues? As much as I care about harmony in the workplace, I  also value self-care.  

8.EMPOWER ANOTHER PERSON

In a world full of jealousy, envy, hate, competition and b**ching  ~ why not make the world a little better and do something that will empower someone? When you do good, you feel good.   When you stretch out your hand to help, support and encourage someone even in your small way, you will feel empowered too. 

9. USE YOUR  TALENT WELL

We all have been given different talents and most of us never use it well. We are responsible for the talent that has been entrusted to us.  Cultivate it and use it with purpose to contribute to the world. 

If you love writing, don’t waste your time being an accountant. If you love painting, don’t waste your time getting an engineering degree. If you love to sew,  why spend most of your days as a medical receptionist?   You empower yourself by living your talent, so work on what you love and realise that your gift is too valuable to be unseen.

10.NEVER STOP IMPROVING YOURSELF

Self-improvement only makes you better. When you better yourself, you become an inspiration for other people and in return it gives you an increased sense of direction, self-worth and fulfillment. Set SMART Goals and never stop trying to become the best version of YOU.

With patience and determination, you will get there. When you feel empowered, you reach new heights that will only make you better and stronger.
